Check stock against sales velocity in Shopify

A fixed reorder threshold treats a line that sells three a week the same as one that sells sixty. Dash reads current Shopify stock against how fast each line is actually selling, counts what is already inbound from suppliers, and returns what runs out and when rather than what is simply low.

@Dash what runs out in the next three weeks based on how it is actually selling?

Six lines, and the order they run out in is not the order of how low they are.

  • Cedar hand balm 100ml · 41 units · out in 6 days · nothing inbound
  • Linen tea towel, sage · 88 units · out in 11 days · 200 inbound, due 22 Sep, too late
  • Beeswax wrap set · 12 units · out in 19 days · slow seller, not urgent
  • Three more · between 19 and 21 days

The tea towel is the one to look at. It has more than twice the stock of the balm and it is the more expensive problem, because the restock lands nine days after it sells out and it is the line most often bought alongside something else.

The beeswax wraps have the lowest count on the shelf and would top a low-stock report. At the current rate they have nearly three weeks left. Ordering them this week ties up cash for a line that does not need it.

Why is the balm selling so fast, is that real?

Real, but not a trend. Two thirds of the last fortnight's units went out in orders over sixty pounds, against a quarter normally. It is being added to baskets to reach the free shipping threshold, which changed on 11 August.

So the rate is genuine and will probably hold while the threshold does, but it is a shipping decision showing up as product demand. Worth knowing before you build a reorder on it.
